He is known for his ability to foster meaningful conversations about migration, language, trauma, and the power of narrative to build bridges between communities. His writing has been praised for its emotional depth, vivid imagery, and its unwavering commitment to telling the truth—even when it hurts.

Gus currently lives in the Tampa Bay Area, where he continues to write, teach, and build community through storytelling.

He works as a Digital Navigator for the Hillsborough Education Foundation, helping to bridge the digital divide for underserved communities—especially migrant and farmworker families. In this role, Gus provides training, resources, and personalized support to families adapting to new technologies, assisting them in accessing online educational tools, connecting with schools, and empowering their children to succeed in a digital world.

His efforts are focused on fostering inclusion, opportunity, and confidence in navigating the challenges of migration, learning, and daily life.
